Day 2 of the First Four from Dayton, Ohio began in style, as No. 16 seed Mount St. Mary’s defeated No. 16 seed American 83-72 to advance to the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Mount St. Mary’s picked up its third NCAA Tournament win in program history and will face No. 1 seed Duke on Friday.

Mount St. Mary’s had three players finish with at least 15 points in the win. American star Matt Rogers logged only eight minutes after suffering a leg injury late in the first half and did not return.

The final game of the First Four is between No. 11 seeds Texas and Xavier. The Longhorns were a surprise addition to the tournament field after most projected Rodney Terry’s squad as one of the “Last Four Out” on Selection Sunday. The winner of that game faces No. 6 seed Illinois.
