Many fans have wondered if Gargano will be following in his friend Ciampa’s footsteps, but it has been reported by Fightful Select as part of their recent Select Answers update that Gargano is “Firmly” under contract with WWE.
It was also noted that talks with AEW didn’t get too deep when Gargano was a free agent last time.
While his storyline on SmackDown appears to be building towards something, there are clearly no plans for him to make his exit despite Ciampa finding his feet in AEW.
Johnny Gargano and Ciampa were once part of DIY
Johnny Gargano’s storyline on SmackDown appears to be so disjointed because there wasn’t an on-screen reason given for Ciampa’s exit. Instead, he was just gone in the same way that Carlito once was, and Gargano has been forced to adapt.
It may take a while for him to form a new alliance, since he was in the tag team division and now he’s a solo star. Candice is trying her best to help her husband, but at present, it seems that he needs to reconnect with his love of the business and could find a new partner rather than being forced into being a singles star.
It will be interesting to see what happens with Gargano at WrestleMania, since there could be some plans for him if WWE decides to bring back the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal. A win in that match could be what Gargano needs to get his career back on track.
