• Luft Tokyo was the first time the air-cooled Porsche show traveled to Asia.
  • The show drew in over 11,600 people and 220 vehicles.
  • This event proves to Luft organizers that demand is high for more global shows.

Luftgekühlt has quickly become the “must-attend” show for fans of classic Porsches. It’s a clear hit here in the US, and now the Luft team has proven that Porsche love runs strong in Japan as well.

Luft Tokyo transformed a retired stretch of the KK Line Expressway into the perfect place to ogle pristine parked air-cooled Porsches. The show drew in over 11,600 attendees and 220 vehicles.

Patrick Long, founder of Luftgekühlt, said, “Bringing Luftgekühlt to Tokyo was an important moment for us, and the response exceeded expectations.”

Bringing the show here was smart, as Japan’s car culture continually proves to be near-mythical. We often hear stories of truly wild machinery tucked away, hidden in small garages. Or tales of street-legal racecars that have no business being driven in traffic, yet make their presence known from time to time.

“The level of enthusiasm and engagement we saw from the community reinforces how strong the connection is around Porsche globally, and it gives us a lot of momentum as we look ahead to what’s next,” says Patrick Long

Next up for the Luft team is Air|Water. This show expands what attendees can see by welcoming a much larger range of Porsche models. Porsche fans need to flock to Costa Mesa, California, on April 25th, where Air|Water will take over the Orange County Fairgrounds.

The setting won’t be quite as wondrous as Luft Tokyo, but the vehicle viewing will certainly be just as amazing.

Motor1’s Take: While vintage Porsche stuff might not be for everyone, there’s no denying the success and growth of Luft. Adding the Air|Water show to the calendar helps boost appeal a bit, too.

Of all the Luft shows to attend, the setting here in Tokyo looks like it might’ve been one of the best backdrops. We look forward to seeing even more photos from this particular show.
