With 49ers fullback Kyle Juszczyk entering his 13th NFL season, it’s only natural to wonder how much longer he intends to play professional football.

Juszczyk offered an optimistic take on his future while speaking to NBC Sports Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco on Thursday at the American Century Championship in South Lake Tahoe.

“I always leave it open-ended,” Juszczyk told Maiocco. “When you’re 34, people always ask how many more years you got, which is understandable. I ask the same questions of people my age.

“And I can’t give a definitive answer because I still feel so well, and I feel like I’m playing well. So, I’m just going to keep riding it out and go season by season. I know I got at least two because I’m locked up for two. I’m really excited about that. But after that, we’ll play it by ear. Hopefully I’ve got a couple more after that, but we’ll see.”

The fullback had an impressive year for the 49ers during the 2024 NFL season, where he received another Pro Bowl selection and an All-Pro selection for the second consecutive year. Still, there were concerns that the 34-year-old wouldn’t return to San Francisco after the franchise released him in March.

The nine-time Pro Bowl selection eventually re-signed with the 49ers on a two-year, $8 million contract, keeping him in the Bay Area for the foreseeable future.

While the fullback position seldom is used in modern professional football formations, Kyle Shanahan’s motion-heavy offense relies on Juszczyk’s blocking, rushing and receiving capabilities to keep everything humming perfectly.

After a lackluster 6-11 record last year, Juszczyk and the 49ers are dialed in and refocused on returning to the playoffs this upcoming NFL season.

With plenty of epic offseason workouts under his belt, expect another exceptional season from one of the league’s elite fullbacks.
