Jon Rahm has been a pillar of consistency since joining LIV Golf. However, he hasn’t been able to get over the hump and hoist an individual trophy in more than a year.

That drought ended Sunday.

The Spaniard claimed his first worldwide win since 2024 at LIV Golf Hong Kong, shooting four rounds in the 60s and finishing at 23 under for the week, three shots better than Thomas Detry. After four consecutive runner-up finishes, the win has been a long time coming for Rahm.

“Very relieving. That’s the only way I can describe it,” Rahm said. “I’ve been very ecstatic for wins in the past. This one just feels like a big weight off my shoulder. That’s all I can say.

“It’s been a good round. I’ve been playing great golf. Coming up close is tough. But I’m playing really, really good golf, and just had to stay patient and believe that it was going to happen. Yeah, that I did, and took advantage of the opportunities when I could today.”

Rahm’s week started with him chartering a jet to save seven LIV Golf players and a caddie stranded in the Middle East due to the ongoing war, and there was also plenty of chatter after he discussed his feud with the DP World Tour, why he rejected the deal and saying the tour was extorting players. By week’s end, though, Rahm’s name was in a familiar position on the leaderboard.

Rahm said he felt relief after his first victory at Torrey Pines and at the 2021 U.S. Open, his first major victory and becoming the first Spaniard to win the U.S. Golf Association’s national championship. But there was still a sense of calm after Sunday’s win.

“There’s a few milestones in my life that I’m very appreciative of, and a few of them felt like a relief,” Rahm said. “Maybe not at that moment because I was ecstatic. As far as awayness for that, maybe this one takes the cake.”

Detry, one of the players Rahm chartered a jet for, finished at 20 under. Thomas Pieters, Harold Varver III and Matthew Wolff rounded out the top five.

Dustin Johnson’s 4Aces GC won the team competition by six shots over Smash GC.
