The Jets aren’t expected to reach for a quarterback with the second pick in this year’s draft, but they could be targeting one when their turn comes back around at No. 16.

One prospect who appears to be on their radar is Alabama’s Ty Simpson.

Simpson is widely considered the second-ranked prospect at the position, only behind projected top overall pick, Heisman Trophy winner Fernando Mendoza.

Gang Green was among teams in attendance at Alabama’s pro day on Wednesday.

According to ESPN’s Field Yates, the team is expected to take a close look at the 23-year-old as they have dinner and a private workout in Tuscaloosa the next two days.

GM Darren Mougey, HC Aaron Glenn, and OC Frank Reich are among those who are expected to be in attendance.

The two sides also met at the NFL Combine, after which Simpson said he’d love the opportunity to play in the Big Apple.

“I really love the Jets, really blessed to have an opportunity to meet with them,” he said. “If I have an opportunity to play in New York, they’re going to get the best Ty Simpson possible.”

There have been some questions around Simpson’s value having started just one season, but he feels his time playing with the loaded Crimson Tide has him ready to be a franchise QB.

“Alabama prepares you for the NFL,” he said. “I’ve run an NFL-type system, it prepared me for saying those play calls, saying those checks, making sure I get us in the right protection — and I’ve played against really good NFL players.

“My freshman year learning from the No. 1 pick and Heisman Trophy winner (Bryce Young). Going against that defense on the scout team — Will Anderson, Dallas Turner, Henry To’To’o, Kool-Aid (McKinstry) on one side and Terrion (Arnold) on the other,” he continued.

“There are a number of first- and second-round draft picks that I went against, so I feel like the Alabama locker room was as close to an NFL locker room as you can get.”

Simpson completed 64 percent of his passes for 3,567 yards and 28 touchdowns during his lone year at the helm.
