The Jets and Predators will be meeting for the second time this season after the Predators defeated the Jets 4-1. In that game, the Predators thoroughly outplayed the Jets, outshooting them 36-24, potting three goals in the third period to pick up the win.
The Predators still aren’t at the spot they were hoping to be in after they made multiple big offseason moves and are currently 13 points out of the second wild card.
The Predators are the least efficient scoring team in the league, averaging 29.2 shots per game (12th overall), but rank dead last in the NHL in both goals per game and team shooting percentage, scoring on just 8.4% of their shots. Besides their penalty kill, things aren’t going much better on the defensive end, ranking 21st in goals allowed per game and 25th in shots per game.
Tonight’s game is a battle between the top power-play unit and the top penalty kill unit in the NHL. The Predators are killing 86.9% of their penalties, and the Jets are scoring on 32.2% of their man advantage opportunities.
Mark Scheifele enters tonight’s game as the NHL’s first star of the week after he potted four goals and six points in two games. He, Kyle Connor and Gabriel Vilardi have been rolling, scoring both on the power play and at 5-on-5, and will need to continue their strong play in their final two games before the end of 2024.
Connor Hellebuyck and Juuse Saros will be in net for their respective teams.
Puck drop is at 6:30 P.M. CST at the Canadian Life Centre.
