Ladies and gentlemen, we have free agency action in Jacksonville, well, sort of. Per NFL insider Field Yates, the Jaguars extended an offer to Seattle Seahawks veteran wide receiver Jake Bobo on Friday. While it may not be time for the confetti just yet, Duval is officially in the mix, with Bobo signing the undisclosed offer sheet.
Not Your Normal Signing
Seattle had already made their intentions clear, placing a right-of-first-refusal tender on Bobo before the start of the 2026 league year, a one-year qualifying offer worth $3.547 million that remains on the table for Bobo to accept. As a restricted free agent from the 2023 draft class, Bobo has three accrued seasons and an expired contract. That designation means he’s free to negotiate and sign with any team, but it comes with a catch. The Seahawks retain the right to match any offer Bobo receives. With the right-of-first-refusal tender in place, the Seahawks retain the ability to match any offer sheet Bobo signs with another team, including Jacksonville’s.

However, this particular tender level carries no draft compensation, meaning if Seattle chooses not to match, the Jaguars would land Bobo without surrendering a single pick. That changes the calculus considerably, and puts the ball squarely in Seattle’s court. Essentially, it’s free agency with a safety net for the original team, Seattle, and Jacksonville is now testing just how committed the Seahawks are to keeping their young receiver.
Comp Picks Protected
Perhaps the most notable detail in all of this is what the Bobo signing won’t cost Jacksonville, at least in terms of compensatory picks. As a restricted free agent, Bobo does not count against the NFL’s compensatory pick formula, mirroring the situation with recently signed running back Chris Rodriguez. That means the Jaguars are free to add Bobo to the roster without putting their three projected 2027 compensatory picks at risk, the compensation tied to the departures of Devin Lloyd, Travis Etienne, and Greg Newsome remains fully intact. With GM James Gladstone recently mentioning the importance of comp picks in Jacksonville’s draft and free agency strategy, this savvy roster-building move falls in line, adding depth without sacrificing the future.
Depth Needed at WR
The timing makes complete sense for Jacksonville. With both Dyami Brown and Tim Patrick having already departed in free agency, the Jaguars were in need of a big-bodied outside receiver who could fill multiple roles, and Bobo fits that profile well. He blocks effectively on the perimeter, presents a legitimate red zone threat, and brings special teams value that teams at this roster tier genuinely covet.

In three seasons with Seattle, Bobo compiled 34 receptions for 323 yards and three touchdowns while carving out a reputation as one of the more physical and dependable run blockers at the wide receiver position. While he hasn’t lit up the stat sheet in his time in the league, he’s a dependable receiver who does the dirty work well. In other words, he’s exactly the type of glue guy that the new Jacksonville regime can’t get enough of on this roster.
Waldron Stamp of Approval?
This move could also reunite Bobo with former Seahawks offensive coordinator Shane Waldron, who now serves as Jacksonville’s passing game coordinator. If anyone knows how to get the most out of Bobo, it could be the coach who helped develop him in Seattle.
Nothing yet official
The ball is now in Seattle’s court and the Seahawks have five days to decide whether to match Jacksonville’s offer. If they do, Bobo returns to the Pacific Northwest. If they don’t, he’s officially a Jaguar in less than a week.
