The Ryder Cup is just a half-dozen weeks away, and the home side is starting to take shape.
After a runner-up finish in the FedEx St. Jude Championship, where he lost in a playoff, J.J. Spaun became an automatic qualifier for the U.S. side, an unlikely rise after starting the 2025 season outside the Official World Golf Ranking top 100. He’s now up to No. 6.
Also, Xander Schauffele — who has made 70 straight cuts on the PGA Tour, the sixth-longest streak ever — has mathematically secured his spot on the team, meaning half of the six automatic slots have been filled. Scottie Scheffler locked up his position on Captain Keegan Bradley’s side a while back.
The 2025 Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black in New York is just 46 days away. Team USA will be looking to recapture the Ryder Cup after the Europeans dominated Rome in 2023. The Europeans will be captained by Luke Donald in this year’s edition.
Bradley has a big decision to make after his recent win at the Travelers Championship: Does he play, does he stay as captain, or both? Jordan Spieth jokingly said he hopes Bradley doesn’t play, leaving an extra spot up for grabs.
The competition will be contested at Bethpage Black, a creation of legendary architect A.W. Tillinghast, which has been a part of golf history since its opening in 1936. Nestled in suburban Long Island, Bethpage State Park features five 18-hole regulation golf courses, including the esteemed Black Course.
It will be the first time the Ryder Cup graces its greens, but the course has previously hosted the U.S. Open in 2002 and 2009. The 2019 PGA Championship was also held at Bethpage Black, with Brooks Koepka emerging as the tournament champion.
