The tournament, played at Riviera Country Club, is where Woods made his tour debut as a 16-year old amateur.
That has golf fans wondering if the all-time great will make a return on this course.
A comeback might be in the works, although not quite on that timeline.

Is Tiger Woods playing this week at The Genesis?
No, Tiger will not be in the 72-golfer field for this week’s tournament.
Woods is talking about a comeback, though. He hasn’t ruled out playing at the 2026 Masters.
“I’m trying [to come back], put it that way,” Woods said earlier this week in a press conference. “The disc replacement has been one thing. It’s been a challenge to — I’ve had a fused back and now a disc replacement, so it’s challenging.”

Woods is 50 now, and he hasn’t played on the PGA Tour since the 2024 Open Championship.
He tore his Achilles last year, causing him to miss the entire season, and then underwent a back surgery in October to replace a collapsed lumbar disc.
“The Achilles was not an issue. I can’t dunk a basketball anymore, so I don’t have to worry about that,” Woods said in his press conference. “As far as the disc replacement, it’s just sore. It takes time. [Will Zalatoris] went through it, and it took him a while to come back. I’m a little bit older than Willy Z. It’s probably going to take me a little bit longer.”
Golf fans would certainly enjoy seeing Woods back on the course.

“My body has been through a lot,” he said. “It’s just one of those things where it’s each and every day, I keep trying, I keep progressing, I keep working on it, trying to get stronger, trying to get more endurance in this body and trying to get it at a level at which I can play at the highest level again.”
