Friday is usually cut day on the PGA Tour. Most events on the schedule have a 36-hole cut and barring weather delays, those cuts generally occur Friday evenings. Golf fans know this.
There tends to be a bit of confusion with the signature events on the schedule, however. The PGA Tour has designated eight tournaments to be signature events. All are limited-field events.

Of those eight, five do not have a 36-hole cut while three do. Here’s how it breaks down.

The five without a cut are the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, RBC Heritage, Cadillac Championship, Truist Championship and Travelers Championship. Those events have $20 million total purses and a $3.6 million first-place prizes. Everyone in the fields for these plays all 72 holes and everyone gets paid.

What signature events have a 36-hole cut?
The three signature events that are referred to as “player hosted” are the Genesis Invitational, Arnold Palmer Invitational and the Memorial Tournament. Tiger Woods hosts the Genesis, the API is Arnold Palmer’s bash that he started in 1979, and Jack Nicklaus runs the Memorial. Those each have 72-player fields, a $20 million purse and $4 million goes the winner.
Besides those bigger first-place checks, what distinguishes these three signature events is that they all have a 36-hole cut to the top 50 and ties plus any player within 10 shots of the lead. With a 72-man field, that might mean not very many golfers miss the cut. A year ago, there were 18 guys who didn’t make the weekend at Riviera at the Genesis Invitational.
