The former Nexus leader briefly worked with NWA before returning to WWE in a non-wrestling role in 2020.

In an interview with Metro UK, Wade Barrett explained why he has steered clear of any physicality.

“I don’t want to put any ideas in anyone’s head, he said. ‘Oh, Wade’s rolling around pretty well.’ Oh, I like that landing. You know what? Let’s have Brock Lesnar or Drew or Sheamus beat the hell out of the commentator this week. ‘Let’s, let’s not put that out in the universe. Don’t give anyone any bad ideas!”

The former King Barrett admitted that plans were in place for him to face Nick Aldis during their time in the NWA.

He thinks the SmackDown General Manager can still go, but urged his fans to leave him out of this conversation as he’s truly done.

“That was definitely something that was floated out there, [but] I was strictly in NWA as a commentator. I would absolutely vouch for him to be a guy to have that, maybe with an Adam Pearce. I can see our two GMs of the two respective brands showing down. Adam Pearce can still go. That’s a guy who’s a former world champion in NWA. Great pedigree to him. And I know he’s got that twinkle in his eye whenever I speak to him about the possibility of getting back in the ring. [But] leave me out of this. I’m done. Let those two throw down. I’ll commentate!”

Wade Barrett is open to facing Drew McIntyre in WWE

Wade Barrett added that a potential feud with Drew McIntyre would be difficult for him to turn down.

“That would be a difficult one to turn down, I’m not gonna lie. I think physically, it would destroy me for good, because Drew’s a bit of a beast in that ring, he’s a nasty piece of work when he wants to be.”

The Scotsman has taken issue with the officials and the authority figures in the past, but WWE never pulled the trigger on a full-blown rivalry.

As for now, Drew McIntyre looks set to face Jacob Fatu on the road to WrestleMania 42.
