Olympique de Marseille were shocked earlier this evening when they were soundly beaten 3-1 by AJ Auxerre at the Stade Vélodrome.
Marseille let in an early goal in the 10th minute when Lassine Sinayoko capitalised on a mistake from Lilian Brassier. However, the errors would keep coming and with the hosts chasing the game Auxerre scored in the 43rd and 45th minute from Gaëtan Perrin and Hamed Traorè. It would be the second home game in a row where Marseille would go into the half-time break 3-0 down.
Marseille’s home form has left some questions for manager Roberto De Zerbi. Marseille have won all but one of their six away games but at the Vélodrome results have been far more inconsistent. A victory over OGC Nice has been the one bright spark amid draws to Stade de Reims and Angers SCO and defeats to Auxerre and Paris Saint-Germain.
Roberto De Zerbi slams Marseille’s home results
De Zerbi was not afraid to put his head on the chopping block after this latest poor result. The Italian manager in the post-match press conference released a bombshell stating, “I have to take responsibility for this home defeat. We have difficulties at home, that’s clear. I don’t know if it’s a lack of courage or personality. I came here to play at the Vélodrome because I wanted to live that experience. If the problem is me, I’m ready to leave.”
“I’ll leave without the money, I don’t care about the rest.” De Zerbi continued, “I don’t want to make excuses and talk nonsense. I’m not going to escape, we have to face reality. That’s what I have to do… I repeat if I’m the problem, I have to leave.”
