For those unaware, Johnny Gargano had an impeccable run in NXT, winning the NXT Championship and the NXT Tag Team Championship once each. He is also a three-time NXT North American Champion. Despite not being able to replicate his NXT success on the main roster, Johnny Wrestling is still a two-time WWE Tag Team Champion, with both titles won alongside Tommaso Ciampa.
Johnny Gargano suffered a disheartening loss on WWE SmackDown
Johnny Gargano suffered a massive setback as Tommaso Ciampa departed from the company in January. The NXT Triple Crown Champion hasn’t won a match since and has been portraying a depressed and lost-in-thought character.
However, last week on Friday Night SmackDown, Johnny Gargano walked to the ring all pumped up after a backstage conversation with his wife, Candice LeRae. He cut a passionate promo and threw out an open challenge for a singles match.
Oba Femi, who has been unstoppable since his main-roster debut, answered Gargano’s open challenge. The Nigerian star put forth another dominant performance and squashed the veteran in a match that lasted just a shade over one minute.
The loss against Oba Femi was Gargano’s fourth in as many matches since the beginning of the year. It will be interesting to see if the former #DIY member can turn things around and secure his first win of 2026.
