HILLSDALE COUNTY — The Hillsdale Academy Colts and Hillsdale boys golf teams got their first nine-hole dual of the 2025 spring sports season in the books with a non-league matchup against each other. It was a good test for upcoming league events in the SCAA and LCAA which begin on Monday, April 21.
Hillsdale Academy senior golfer Kahle Welden led the Colts and Hornets golfers with the top score of the day. He shot five over par at 40 for the nine-hole course. This included five pars and finishing just one over on three other holes.
The Colts put three other golfers into the top five of the dual individual standings. Sophomore Edward Keaster impressed with a final score of 45, tying teammate and fellow sophomore Lincoln Knirk. Senior Vincent Reagle took fourth with a 46. Junior Grayson Young scored a 52 to take sixth. That was enough to push the Colts to a team win over Hillsdale with a 176-216 final differential.
The Hornets were led by senior Brahm Gambill with a 51. Hornet junior Julian Harman took seventh with a 54, tying teammate Nice Muangprom and Hillsdale Academy sophomore Ben Lutz. Rounding out the top 10 was Collin Mullaly. The junior Hornet finished the nine-hole game with a score of 57.
Hillsdale junior Landon York placed 11th with a 62. Academy sophomore Ross Bertram placed 12th with a 67. Griffin Spratt, Hillsdale senior, placed 13th with a 70. Academy senior Samuel Brown placed 14th with a 75.
The Hillsdale golf team will be back out on the courses on Monday, April 21 when they host the first jamboree of the LCAA boys golf season. The event begins at 3 p.m. at the Baw Beese golf course.
Hillsdale Academy will have another golf event this week. They travel to Michigan State University, who is hosting the PGA Reach Invitational.
PGA REACH Michigan is the 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization and philanthropic arm of the Michigan PGA Section, one of the 41 sections in the PGA of America.
The 18-hole tournament will be played on the Forest Akers West golf course on the campus of Michigan State University, a course the Colts have become familiar with over the past few seasons. As this is an 18-hole tournament, the event will begin with golf in the morning. Thursday is expected to be a mild weather day with highs at 65-degrees.
After that, the Colts are scheduled to compete at Ella Sharp Park in Jackson at the first SCAA jamboree of the season, hosted by Jackson Christian, on Monday, April 21.
