Harris English might have played his way onto the U.S. Ryder Cup team the last couple months.
It started with his T-2 finish at the PGA Championship. Then he finished T-12 at the Memorial, T-4 at the Travelers and capped it with a solo second at the 2025 British Open, finishing four shots behind Scottie Scheffler at Royal Portrush.
His finish Sunday vaulted him four spots up the U.S. Ryder Cup standings to sixth, the final automatic spot to make Team USA for the biennial competition in two months at Bethpage Black. Scheffler, the world No. 1, is the only player already on the team via points. Next month, the top six in the standings will also earn automatic spots after the BMW Championship.
The British Open was the last chance for players to earn large point totals, and English capitalized. Another player who cashed in was Chris Gotterup, his solo third moving him up 19 spots to 22nd on the list.
Captain Keegan Bradley sits 10th in the points list, but with his recent play, fans have clamored for him to use a pick on himself. Time will tell to see whether that happens.
Only four more weeks remains for golfers to automatically earn their spots on team USA, but for a majority of players trying to take on Team Europe, they’re going to have to show Bradley why they deserve a captain’s pick with their play.
Here’s a look at the updated United States Ryder Cup standings after the British Open:
