A co-leader after 54 holes last week at the LPGA’s first major of 2025, the Chevron Championship, Haeran Ryu struggled through the final round at the Club at Carlton Woods last Sunday. She would sign for a 4-over 76 even after chipping in for a eagle on the par-5 closing hole, the only golfer to record an eagle on No. 18 all week.
Ryu would end up two shots shy of a five-way playoff, won by the other 54-hole co-leader Mao Saigo, but Ryu us bouncing back nicely this week in Southern Utah.
She opened her week at the inaugural Black Desert Championship in Ivins, Utah, with a 9-under 63 and kept it going Friday with a 5-under 67. After 36 holes at Black Desert Resort, Ryu is 14 under overall and leading by two over Somi Lee and by three over Soo Bin Joo.
Ryu has just one bogey over her first 36 holes. She also carded an eagle on the par-5 ninth during her Friday round.
Ryu has two LPGA wins, one in each of the last two seasons, but is seeking her first in 2025.
Ariya Jutanugarn, one of the four runner-ups in that Chevron playoff, is tied for fourth at Black Desert after posting scores of 64-70. She’s at 10 under overall, four shots back.
