Gunther addressed the intense situation backstage at John Cena’s retirement show

John Cena retired by the end of 2025, competing in his final match at Saturday Night’s Main Event. His final opponent, Gunther, revealed the intense feeling that was in the air.

Speaking on What Do You Wanna Talk About? with Cody Rhodes, the former WWE World Heavyweight Champion said that Cena’s retirement show felt more intense than WrestleMania. He said:

“That day, strangely, it felt like… it almost felt like more intense than WrestleMania that day,”

Gunther also revealed that he wasn’t moved much by Cena’s retirement, as he grew up as a Japanese wrestling nerd. He also added the following:

“But also for my own benefit, it was great to be the guy that can pull the rug on everybody,”

Gunther’s direction heading into WrestleMania 42 is unknown. His feud with Dragon Lee seems far from over, as he has claimed on social media that his career is far from over and that The Ring General hasn’t ended another career.
