Yes, walking on the hallowed grounds at Augusta National Golf Club is a spiritual experience, especially the first time you do so.
As part of Golfweek/USA Today’s annual Masters surveys, we had to see whether players ever checked in with a higher power as they were finding their way around.

So we asked: Have you ever prayed at Augusta National?
Jason Day
All the time. When I play the golf course, the number of times that I pray in my head every single day when I’m there is a lot.

No. It’s more gratitude. Being from Georgia, it’s kind of the Holy Grail of golf. I try to be grateful to be at one of the greatest places for golf.
Sahith Theegala
I’ve found myself praying for good health and at least one time walking out to the first tee on Sunday in 2023, thinking this is unbelievable, just that I’m here. It was cool. I have a little platinum chain I wear on my neck with a Hindu God on the end of it. That’s who I look to, I guess.

J.J. Spaun
Yes. First tee every time.
Keegan Bradley
I have not.
Wyndham Clark
Of course. All the time.

Never have.
Trevor Immelman
Absolutely, all the time.
Gary Player
I prayed every single round I ever played. Not to win but to behave well, to play like a champion, and to remember how fortunate I was to be there. I prayed in gratitude for the love of the galleries and the privilege of playing that course.
Matt Fitzpatrick
I’ve never prayed in my life, so the answer would be no.
Rickie Fowler
Oh, yeah. Sometimes in good, sometimes in bad situations. It could be situation-dependent. One of my favorite areas is 12 green, 13 tee, because that’s like the spot where you get to kind of take a breath and be away, and then you’re looking out at everyone out there. I’ve said a few prayers there.

Russell Henley
There’s a lot of times where I will thank God for a good shot or a good round or to ask him to help me with my anger or my nerves and give me peace. I do that not just at Augusta but at a lot of places.
Zach Johnson
A hundred percent. I won there on Easter. I can’t count the number of prayers that have been said on that hallowed ground, whether I have been reciting scripture or saying a generic prayer or asking please Lord don’t let me 3-putt. Just kidding!
Larry Mize
Oh, yeah. I’ve prayed everywhere there.
Xander Schauffele
I have not. Maybe I should start.
