PARK RAPIDS — Willmar’s Kennedy Mara qualified for state as an individual after the final round of the Section 8AAA Tournament at the Headwaters Golf Club.

Mara had the low score Thursday with a 79 to finish the two-round tournament with a 161, good for fourth place.

Alexandria’s Ellie Sticha shot a 157 to win the section title and helped lead Alex to the team title.

Willmar’s Lucia Martin Rodriguez lost a playoff for a state bid after finishing tied for seventh with a 168.

Willmar took third with a 704. Alexandria recorded a 662 and Moorhead was second with a 696.

“(It was) another season in the books,” said Willmar head coach Bryan Mara. “(I’m) super proud of our season.

“(The) girls played well and were a fun team to be with. They are so good to each other.”

The state Class AAA girls golf tournament is June 10-11 at Bunker Hills Golf Club in Coon Rapids.

Willmar sophomore Aden Jacobson is headed to the state tournament after finishing in a tie for second place at the Greystone Golf Club in Sauk Centre.

Jacobson shot a 69 Thursday after shooting a 71 in Wednesday’s first round to finish with a 140, the same score as Alexandria’s Carver Larson. Brainerd’s Aydan Dobis won the section title with a 137. Dobis shot a 67 in the second round.

Alexandria is headed to the team portion of the state Class AAA tournament June 10-11 at Bunker Hills Golf Club in Coon Rapids.

Alex finished with a 577 to beat Brainerd’s 583. Willmar didn’t make the second-round cut.
