Kevin Owens reveals he wanted to battle WWE legend one last time

SmackDown star Kevin Owens recently revealed that he wanted to face John Cena during the legend’s retirement tour, but his neck injury prevented it.

In an interview with Sam Roberts following SummerSlam, Owens shared that he attempted to return sooner to battle John Cena, but it was not possible. Cena retired following his loss to Gunther at Saturday Night’s Main Event in December 2025.

“In three months, my bones are fused. Because in my head, I’m like, ‘I’m gonna come back before John Cena retires so I can wrestle him one last time,’ and they humored me and did the scan. They’re like, ‘Yeah, not happening,’” he said.

It will be fascinating to see if Kevin Owens can defeat CM Punk to become champion in a couple of weeks on SmackDown.
