Fans Floored by ‘Trick Shot’ From Rory McIlroy at The Open Championship originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The Open Championship continued on Saturday at Royal Portrush in Antrim, Northern Ireland as Rory McIlroy and other big name golfers chased leaders Matt Fitzpatrick and Scottie Scheffler.
McIlroy found himself tied for 11th on the leaderboard at -5 as the day continued to unwind.
A shot by the golf superstar began going viral as commentators and sportswriters scrambled to remember whether they had ever seen anything like it before in their careers.
The shot was dubbed a “magic trick” as it looked like something out of a vintage Tiger Woods commercial while fans struggled to make sense of what they had just witnessed.
“This looks like a magic trick,” one poster wrote as they shared video of McIlroy’s shot.
McIlroy struck the ball and sent it flying while slow motion cameras showed a second ball popping out of the ground underneath his ball.
The second ball flew up in the air causing fans to react like crazy on X.
