In many ways, golf and F1 race car engineering aren’t that far apart from each other. They both require a deep understanding of their respective rules, along with technical expertise in metallurgy, impact sciences and speed, with the end goal being total performance.
Now, McLaren, F1 Racing and hypercar producers, are looking to truly bring golf and race engineering together with the launch of a completely new golf company, McLaren Golf. Although details are sparse, a press release from the newly launched company came with some exciting quotes from the management team, including CEO Neil Howie, a former President of Callaway Golf Europe.
McLaren Golf is a high-end, engineering-led venture which goes beyond the equipment. We’re building a brand grounded in McLaren’s high-performance DNA, and embedding it in a new sporting arena. We’ve hired some of the best minds in engineering and combined them with leading figures from the golf world to create an innovation-led company that pushes the limits of what golfers can expect from their equipment. We can’t wait to see our ambition come to life on the course this year.
As for personnel, they have hired quite the Who’s Who from around the golf industry, including people from Cobra, TaylorMade, Callaway, and Titleist.
Now we just have to wait until April 29th for what we expect to be a first look at the product range.
