Kylian Mbappé’s start at Real Madrid has been challenging since his free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain this past summer. The 25-year-old has faced a series of setbacks, and his struggles continued after a 2-0 loss to Liverpool.
Mbappé’s El Clásico debut on October 26 was particularly tough, as Real Madrid were thrashed 4-0 by Barcelona at the Santiago Bernabéu. Just days later, the team was defeated 3-1 by AC Milan in the UEFA Champions League.
On Wednesday, with Vinicius Junior sidelined, Mbappé had the opportunity to shine in his preferred role against Liverpool. Unfortunately, it turned into a nightmare for the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner.
Former Real Madrid player weighs in on Kylian Mbappé’s struggles
After the unimpressive performance against Liverpool, former Real Madrid player Predrag Mijatović expressed confidence that the Spanish giants will see the Frenchman’s world-class form again.
“It should be taken into account that last year, when he decided not to renew his contract, he faced enormous pressure in his hometown (Paris) and in his country, with many supporters against him,” Mijatović told Cadena Ser (h/t Le10Sport).
“I think he has carried that issue from last year, and it’s not easy for such a young boy to endure so much pressure. There are many things influencing this kid, which is why he’s not performing well.
“It’s true that he didn’t play well against Liverpool, but from the start, he came with a strong desire to do well. The missed penalty is a shock… I have no doubt that he will find his perfect form again.”
Eventually, the argument about adaptation will no longer hold, and people will start asking if Mbappé’s dream transfer could turn into a nightmare.
