Colin Montgomerie has taken on an important new role within the European Tour Group.
The Ryder Cup legend has been appointed to the organisation’s Board of Directors, bringing decades of experience to the position.

Montgomerie is one of the most decorated players of his generation and remains a hugely respected figure within the game.
His appointment comes at a key time, with the 2027 Ryder Cup at Adare Manor already on the horizon.

The European Tour Group oversees several major parts of the professional game, including the DP World Tour, the HotelPlanner Tour, and the Ryder Cup in Europe.
Montgomerie’s addition to the Board strengthens their leadership during a period of change across golf.
The Scot admitted he was honoured to take on the role and stressed his long-standing loyalty to the Tour.

“I am very much looking forward to joining the Board of the European Tour Group and I consider it a great honour to be asked,” he said on the DP World Tour website.

“I pride myself in the fact that I was always one hundred per cent loyal to the Tour in my playing days, and indeed I continue to be so.”
Montgomerie also acknowledged the wider context of the sport, suggesting he hopes to play a part in shaping its future.
“These are interesting times in professional golf, and I hope I will be able to support, encourage, and assist the Tour going forward in any way I can.”

Montgomerie’s career achievements underline why he has been handed such a significant position.

The 62-year-old won more than 50 professional titles worldwide and dominated the European Tour during the 1990s.
He claimed a record eight Order of Merit titles, including seven in a row, and secured 31 wins on the European Tour.
Montgomerie also enjoyed huge success in the Ryder Cup, where he remains one of Europe’s greatest ever performers.
He played in eight editions, never lost a singles match, and helped Europe to five victories.
Montgomerie later captained Europe to a dramatic win in 2010, further cementing his legacy in the competition.
With the 2027 Ryder Cup at Adare Manor approaching, Montgomerie is now set to influence the next chapter from behind the scenes.
