No. 1 seed Duke won three games in three days in Charlotte, North Carolina this week to capture the 2025 ACC Tournament championship for the 23rd time in program history and first since 2023. Duke defeated No. 8 seed Georgia Tech, No. 5 seed North Carolina and No. 2 seed Louisville in its run to the title, punctuated with a 73-62 win over Louisville on Saturday night.
Louisville came out swinging early and led by five at halftime, matching Duke’s largest halftime deficit of the season after also trailing by five against Georgia Tech two days prior. But just as it did against the Yellow Jackets, the Blue Devils blew it open in the second half with a 40-24 scoring advantage over the final 20 minutes.
Duke’s ability to run away with it late was a credit to both its offensive and defensive units alike. On offense, Tyrese Proctor, Sion James and Kon Knueppel combined for 32 points in the second half — outscoring the entire Louisville team on their own — while going 8 of 16 shooting from the field. On defense, Patrick Ngonba had three blocks and Khaman Maluach had two, several of which shifted the momentum Duke’s direction.
Duke won the ACC Tournament championship in the first year of Jon Scheyer’s tenure in 2022-23 but was bounced in the second round last year. This season has provided all the ACC hardware for the third-year coach, who led Duke to an outright ACC title last week and helped bring home a second ACC tourney title in three years Saturday.

With the win, Duke, which finished the regular season as the No. 1 team in the AP Top 25 poll, enters Selection Sunday as a lock to be a No. 1 seed when the committee unveils its 68-team bracket. Should that happen, it will be the first time Duke has earned a 1-seed under Scheyer and program’s first since 2018-19 — when it advanced to the Elite Eight before falling by one point to Michigan State.
