Bayern Munich 4 – 1 Borussia M’gladbach FT

Bayern Munich cruised to victory over struggling Borussia Monchengladbach, despite being without star striker Harry Kane.

The England captain was ruled out on Thursday with a calf strain, missing his first league match of the season, but manager Vincent Kompany said it is “nothing serious”.

The defending Bundesliga champions were unaffected by his absence as former Liverpool winger Luis Diaz’s volley opened the scoring before he turned provider for Konrad Laimer to hammer home just before half-time.

Jamal Musiala made it three as Gladbach’s Rocco Reitz was sent off for pulling back Nicolas Jackson in the box, and the German calmly converted from the spot.

On-loan Chelsea striker Jackson then tapped in a fourth before 17-year-old Wael Mohya became Monchengladbach’s youngest ever goalscorer, netting a late consolation goal.

Bayern now sit 14 points clear at the top of the Bundesliga, having scored 92 goals this campaign, nine shy of their own league record set in 1971.

Kane is chasing Robert Lewandowski’s record of 41 goals in a single Bundesliga season and has nine league matches left to add to his current tally of 30.

The striker is expected to return for Bayern’s Champions League trip to Italian side Atalanta.

Meanwhile, Gladbach sit three points clear of Werder Bremen in the relegation play-off spot.
