After going back to back at Martinsville and Darlington, Denny Hamlin was looking to three peat at Bristol last weekend. However, Kyle Larson got in his way.

The Hendrick Motorsports driver, who was competing in all three NASCAR races at the Last Great Colosseum, fell short of a three-peat coming in second in the Truck race despite winning in Xfinity and Cup.

After his dominating Bristol victory, Larson had a few words to say about a different three peat, or lack thereof.

“Obviously, having the track position helps a lot,” the 2021 Cup Series champion told Fox’s Jamie Little. “You know, if Denny’s in front of me, it could be a totally different story and be really hard to pass him.

“But, glad to stop his three peat. We hate to see him win as I’m sure you guys do too,” he said pointing to the crowd, which drew an audible cheer from those in the stands. “But it’s just good to be back here in Victory Lane.”

In his weekly Actions Detrimental podcast, Denny Hamlin fired back at the No. 5 car driver’s post-race comments.

He admitted he was rooting for Larson to begin with but had a change of heart after hearing his competitor throw shade.

“His post-race comments about keeping me from three in a row and we don’t like to see that and you fans don’t either, now I’m like, piss on your triple — your sweep,” Hamlin said. “I’m glad Chandler Smith beat you in the Truck race.”

He laughed it off though, saying, “It’s all good,” and went on to applaud Larson for the commanding performance.
