LEBANON — Dawson Sutton had a busy week on the race track.
The Lebanon native started his race weekend on May 29 at Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway and ended a night later about 35 miles east at Nashville Superspeedway, where he finished 11th in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Rackley 200.
Sutton, 19, is in his second season in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, and has one top-five finish. He placed 18th in the 2024 Nashville Truck race.
Rajah Caruth held off Corey Heim and Layne Riggs in the closing laps for his second career NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race. Caruth led 61 of the 150 laps.
“It’s a big deal (having two wins),” Caruth said. “Not being a one-win wonder, honestly a lot of guys win one race and that’s it. They become a stalemate.”
Sutton’s finish at Nashville Superspeedway was his second-best of the year — he placed ninth in Texas on May 2 — despite having to start 29th after rain washed out truck series qualifying.
“I can’t be too mad after not qualifying,” Sutton said. “We ended up starting 30th or 29th. To pick up that many spots is a good deal. We really fought track position all day. We had a better truck than 11th. But overall, we’ll fight back and move on to Michigan next weekend and continue good runs.”
Sutton kept clear of accidents, leaving him a clean truck afterward.
“I really couldn’t ask for more,” he said. “We had a good run. We fought. I thought we were relatively aggressive. That’s all you can really do in the Truck series. Normally your truck doesn’t look like mine at the end of the race.”
He sat on the pole at Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway in the Rackley Roofing Battle of Broadway 150 and finished third after initial winner Josh Berry was disqualified, moving everyone up a spot.
