David Duval spent a good portion of his career trying to catch up with Tiger Woods, who was always one step ahead on the PGA Tour.
Duval eventually got his hands on a major, winning The Open Championship in 2001. But if Tiger had not been around, there is every chance the Jacksonville native would have picked up a few more along the way.

He has never been shy about sharing his thoughts either, even if he kept things pretty calm out on the course.
In 2006, for instance, he had plenty to say about Augusta National’s decision to extend the course for The Masters.
So when Duval shares an opinion about other players, it tends to carry some weight.
With that perspective, Duval’s interpretation of Woods’ record number of career PGA Tour victories proved highly insightful.

Woods is tied with Sam Snead for the most wins in PGA Tour history, both sitting at 82. Nine more than Jack Nicklaus managed over his career.

But Duval sees a clear gap between the two and did not hesitate to make his opinion known.
Posting on X, Duval said: “Tiger Woods is the all time winner on the PGA Tour. Period.
“No team events. No 2 day events. No 3 day events in his total.”
Tiger Woods stands alone at the top of the PGA Tour
Snead’s total includes several formats that wouldn’t be recognised today. Only 59 of those came from four-round stroke-play tournaments, and one was even from a single-round event at the Bing Crosby Pro-Am.
There were also team events included in his tally.
If you counted up all the non-official exhibitions Tiger has played and won over his career, you could argue he should have a clear edge in total victories too.

Snead added these kinds of events to his count, so it is reasonable to wonder why Woods cannot do the same.
