Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy has been known to be a huge fan of Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever. However, he recently revealed on social media that the two-time WNBA All-Star blocked his number.
In an episode of “Barstool Live” on Saturday, Portnoy said that his employee, Rico Bosco, cost him his “No. 1 relationship.” According to Portnoy, Bosco set up an awkward phone call with the brother of Connor McCaffery, Clark’s boyfriend.
“She blocked me,” Portnoy said. “Caitlin Clark has blocked me and is now not responding to me. … I was going to do a pizza review with her in Indianapolis. Blocked me. The phone went to green. I DM’d her, no response. She always responds.”
In Monday’s episode of “Wake Up Barstool,” Portnoy said that Clark had already replied to him:
“I said, ‘Testing, am I blocked?’ She said, ‘Yes, crying emoji, laughing, then no, LOL. I think you sent that last text when I was flying.'”
Portnoy initially said that Clark blocked him on multiple platforms. The Barstool owner previously proclaimed himself as the Fever’s biggest fan. He attended several games last season and often provides commentary about the team on social media.
What led to Caitlin Clark allegedly blocking Dave Portnoy?
Last month, Dave Portnoy commented on the state of the Iowa basketball program, which was previously coached by Fran McCaffery, the father of Caitlin Clark’s boyfriend, Connor. He compared McCaffery’s 15-year run to the success of the first season under new coach Ben McCollum.
“I don’t want to tattle, but my college basketball expert (Rico Bosco) told me the grass isn’t always greener on the other side in regards to Iowa firing Fran McCaffery,” Portnoy wrote on March 22. “Said it was the wrong move. It took one year for them to go further than their entire 17-year run with Fran.”
The comment was reportedly not taken lightly by the McCafferys, leading to Portnoy’s awkward FaceTime call with a member of the family. The conversation did not go well, as Portnoy explained that he did not initially know who he was talking to.
Caitlin Clark is currently preparing for her third WNBA season. The Indiana Fever opens the 2026 season against Paige Bueckers and the Dallas Wings on May 9.
