According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, the Indianapolis Colts have signed Chicago Bears free agent safety and key special teamer Jonathan Owens to bolster their depleted positional depth:
Originally signed as an undrafted free agent of the Arizona Cardinals in 2018, the 5,‘11”, 204 pound safety has played for the Houston Texans, Green Bay Packers, and most recently, the Bears organization.

During 82 career games (35 starts), the 7-year veteran has 295 tackles (191 solo), 3 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks, 2 interceptions, 10 passes defensed, and 4 fumble recoveries.
Owens appeared in all 17 games for the Bears last season, recording 19 tackles (9 solo). The 30-year-old veteran played in 58% of the Bears total special teams snaps in 2025.
Per PFF, he earned a +48.6 overall grade this past season.
Owens projects to be a backup safety and key special teamer for the Colts next season, as the team recently lost backup safety Rodney Thomas II to the Seattle Seahawks in free agency.
Of course, he’s also well known for being the husband of one of the greatest gymnasts of all-time, Simone Biles.
