At Saturday Night’s Main Event, CM Punk defeated Jey Uso to become the new World Heavyweight Champion. After the match, Cody Rhodes had an amazing gesture for Punk backstage, which was caught on camera.
Following a hard-fought main event, The Second City Saint outlasted The Yeet Master to win the vacant World Heavyweight Title in Salt Lake City, Utah. He celebrated the victory with the fans as the show went off the air.
In a post on Instagram, Cody Rhodes posed with CM Punk in front of the WWE logo while wearing their respective titles. There was a video of Rhodes helping Punk put on the World Heavyweight Championship on his waist, which was also shared by WWE on their official account on X, formerly known as Twitter.
It was a special moment for Cody Rhodes and CM Punk, who both left WWE and returned to become the faces of the company. Rhodes retained the Undisputed WWE Championship earlier at SNME by beating Drew McIntyre.
The duo would later pose with new WWE Women’s Champion Jade Cargill and reigning NXT Champion Ricky Saints. All four were former AEW stars who left and joined WWE to become champions.
CM Punk is now a seven-time WWE world champion
Before walking out of the WWE in 2014, CM Punk won the WWE Championship twice and the World Heavyweight Championship three times. He had a 434-day reign as the WWE Champion, while his World Heavyweight Title wins were memorable because of his two cash-ins.
After returning to WWE in 2023, Punk began his quest to win another world title. However, it was delayed by a triceps injury at the 2024 Royal Rumble match. He then had a riveting rivalry with Drew McIntyre before pursuing the World Heavyweight Championship this year.
Punk finally won at SummerSlam, beating Gunther. But his reign lasted for less than five minutes when Seth Rollins came out to surprise him. Rollins was supposed to be injured, but it was all a ruse. He cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase to ruin Punk’s moment.
Nevertheless, The Second City Saint finally won it again on Saturday, and Rollins couldn’t ruin it because he’s out injured for real this time.
