In the main event of WWE SmackDown this week, Cody Rhodes competed against Shinsuke Nakamura, Andrade, and Damian Priest in the first round of the King of the Ring tournament. The person who wins the crown will receive a world title match at SummerSlam.
The King of Strong Style left the ring after the bell rang, but got wiped out with a suicide dive. The Archer of Infamy planted Andrade with a Broken Arrow for a two-count. Cody sent Priest over the top rope and Nakamura attacked both stars at ringside. El Idolo wiped all of them out with a moonsault.
Shinsuke Nakamura planted Damian Priest with a sliding suplex and hit Cody Rhodes with a kick. Shinsuke locked Andrade in an armbar and The American Nightmare broke the hold by diving on the heel. He then pulled out a table but Nakamura sent him through the furniture.
Damian Priest hit the former NJPW star with a flatliner, and Andrade took him out with a moonsault. Cody Rhodes powerslammed Priest before getting hit with a Kinshasa. Andrade hit Nakamura with a meteora in the corner and rocked Damian with a back elbow.
He then hit The Message but Shinsuke made the save. The American Nightmare nailed Priest with a Cody Cutter and hit Shinsuke Nakamura with a Cross Rhodes to win the match. He advanced to the semifinals by defeating three former titleholders on SmackDown.
