Galatasaray have been showing concrete interest for the 31-year-old, whom Inter were willing to part ways with for €30 million.

However, talks have now collapsed after the Turkish giants failed to meet Inter’s price tag.

The Nerazzurri are planning to solve Calhanoglu’s issue internally and keep him for the upcoming season.

His presence will be key for new manager Cristian Chivu in the quest to compete for major silverware.

The Nerazzurri could also try to extend Calhanoglu’s contract, which runs out in 2027. An exit could be on the cards next summer if they fail to convince him over a new deal.

Calhanoglu has been a key cog in Inter’s midfield since his transfer from arch-rivals AC Milan, racking up 32 goals and 38 assists in 182 appearances.

Transforming into a world-class deep-lying midfielder, Calhanoglu played a big part in Inter’s Scudetto triumph in 2023/24 and two runners-up finishes in the Champions League.

It needs to be seen whether Calhanoglu’s continuity could affect Inter’s strategy in the transfer market, as they have been looking for a defensive midfielder.

Atalanta’s Ederson and Palmeiras’ Richard Rios have been earmarked as top targets.

The Nerazzurri also want to prevent midfielder Davide Frattesi’s exit this summer and are preparing an extension offer for the Italian.

Inter have completed the signings of Luis Henrique, Petar Sucic and Ange Yoan-Bonny in this transfer window.
