Bud Cauley, Ben Griffin among area players in The Memorial field

• Scottie Scheffler is set to defend his Memorial Tournament title at Muirfield Village Golf Club.
• The Memorial Tournament boasts a $20 million purse, with $4 million going to the winner.

Scottie Scheffler will defend a PGA Tour title for the fifth time this season when The Memorial is played May 29-June 1 at the Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio. 

And he’s on a hot streak comparable to his best six-week stretch last year when he won seven times on the PGA Tour and added the Olympic Golf Medal. 

Scheffler has won twice and finished eighth or higher four times in his last six starts, with a stroke average of 67.125. He’s posted 21 under-par rounds in 24 and 18 in the 60s, including his record-breaking performance in posting a 253 to win the CJ Cup Byron Nelson. 

Scheffler then won the PGA Championship in his next start for his third major title and 15^th victory overall.

During his best six-tournament stretch in 2024, Scheffler won four times (including the Masters and Players), had a tie for 10th and a tie for second, with a stroke average of 67.625 with 21 under-par rounds and 20 in the 60s.  

He’s had good fortune at Muirfield Village, with a first, third and third in hist last three starts. 

It all points to Scheffler peaking just in time for the U.S. Open June 12-15 at Oakmont.
