Kevin Schade scored twice and Brentford extended their unbeaten run to five games (3W-2D-0L) with a 4-3 victory over a heavily rotated Manchester United side that has all of its eggs in the Europa League basket.

Sunday’s game started well enough for Man United, who made eight changes from their resounding away win over Athletic Bilbao in the Europa League semifinals on Thursday. Mason Mount slid in to turn home Alejandro Garnacho’s cross in the 14th minute and put the Red Devils on the board with their first shot of the game, but Brentford were level again when Mikkel Damsgaard’s shot ricocheted in off of Luke Shaw’s chest in the 27th. 1-1 quickly became 2-1 on 33 minutes, as Kevin Schade soared above everyone to head Christian Norgaard’s cross back across goal and in.

Schade got his second of the game, another header at the back post, in the 70th minute and Yoane Wissa put the game seemingly well out of reach with his 18th Premier League goal of the season four minutes later. Man United mounted a late surge as Garnacho and Amad Diallo, who is back early from an ankle injury that was previously expected to end his season, scored in the 82nd and 95th minutes, but that’s as close as it would get.

That’s six straight without a win (0W-2D-4L) in the PL for Man United, who sit 15th in the table with 39 points from 35 games. Brentford (52 points – 9th), meanwhile, are into the top half of the table and just one point out of 8th, which should end up being a European place next season.

The Red Devils went to Bilbao and stunned Athletic Club 3-0 in the first leg of their UEL semifinal tie, putting one foot in the final and building on their thrilling 5-4 win over Lyon in the quarterfinal. But United have been poor in the Premier League, winless in five-straight with just two draws.

Brentford are unbeaten in four including back-to-back wins over Brighton and Nottingham Forest. Thomas Frank’s Bees sit 11th and can still harbor European hopes with Fulham just two points away in eighth place. They are coming off a good win at Forest that will have them feeling almost as positive as their Sunday visitors.

Brentford vs Manchester United prediction

Ruben Amorim has some momentum and needs to simply avoid imploding in the UEL second leg next week, and there’s no reason for him to prioritize this match. Additionally, United aren’t a better team than Brentford on the whole. And the Bees need this game more than the Red Devils. All we’re saying is don’t be surprised if this looks in favor of the hosts for most of the game, regardless of what moments of magic are conjured by the Red Devils. Brentford 1-1 Man United.
