Her reign lasted 170 days, surpassing Kali Armstrong to become the longest-reigning champion in the purple brand’s short history.
During the March 25th episode of Evolve, the new General Manager, Timothy Thatcher, booked an eliminator gauntlet match to determine a brand new EVOLVE Women’s Champion.
In addition, he also announced participants for next week’s Fatal 4-Way match, with the winner getting the opportunity to enter last in the gauntlet in three weeks’ time.
“Kendal Grey did not just hold the Women’s Championship. She earned it. She set the new standard what it means to work here in WWE Evolve, and with that, she earned her call-up into NXT. Now the division needs a new standard. It needs a woman that can outlast everyone else. So in three weeks, we’re gonna have an eliminator gauntlet to determine the new champion. The rules are gonna be simple. Two competitors are gonna start every two minutes. Another one will enter. The eliminations can occur at any time, by pinfall, submission, or disqualification. There will be no shortcut. At the end, we will have a new champion crowned. Next week, we’re going to have a Fatal 4-Way to determine the final competitor in the gauntlet: Nikkita Lyons vs. Wendy Choo vs. PJ Vasa vs. Laynie Luck. The winner of that will enter last. Surviving the gauntlet will make you a champion.”
[Update: WWE has added Kali Armstrong to next week’s match, making it a Fatal 5-Way contest]
What’s next for Kendal Grey in WWE?
Kendal Grey continues to grow by leaps and bounds. She has now moved up to NXT and has set her sights on the Women’s Championship.
After the WrenQCC defeated Fallon Henley and Lainey Reid of the Fatal Influence this past week, Kendal Grey staked her claim at Jacy Jayne’s NXT Women’s Championship.
She wasn’t the only one, as Lola Vice came out to make her intentions clear. After what went down last night, Robert Stone announced a match between the two women for next week’s show in New York.
The winner will go on to challenge Jacy Jayne for the WWE NXT Women’s Championship at Stand and Deliver on April 4.
