The Voice of the Voiceless was slated to defend the title at WWE’s last night house show in Fairfax, Virginia. As per the EagleBank Arena’s website, CM Punk was advertised to put his championship on the line in a Triple-Threat match against Cody Rhodes and Gunther. However, the match did not take place as scheduled, and The Best in the World instead teamed up with The American Nightmare to face Gunther and Ricky Saints in a tag team match.

CM Punk is a marked man in WWE

Being the Undisputed WWE Champion, CM Punk is walking around in the company with a giant target on his back. While Cody Rhodes, Gunther, and Sami Zayn are all gunning for the Best in the World’s title, the former AEW Champion will first have to deal with Kevin Owens, who became the #1 contender at SummerSlam.

Trick Williams also recently showed interest in facing the Voice of the Voiceless. Trick lost the United States Championship at SummerSlam to Baron Corbin, and is expected to go after the world title. He is one of the favorites to win the Money in the Bank, and thus could cause serious trouble to Punk down the line.

Punk, however, is unfazed by challengers lining up for his title. The WWE Champion addressed numerous stars after retaining his title at SummerSlam, noting that they all can get some:

“I got the target on my back, the gold around my waist. There’s a reason why I call myself ‘The Best in the World’; everybody wants to be that, and I am that. So come and get it. Gunther. Randy. I’m not stoked about what Randy did. Randy’s a snake. Randy wants some, he can get some. His dad Bob [Orton] can get some. Randy’s mom wants some; I’ll slap her too. I don’t really care. Trick Williams? Whoop that Trick? I’ll give some to him too. CM Punk is here, and I’m a target, and I welcome every single archer who wants to shoot a bow and arrow at me.”

CM Punk’s next feud is likely to be against Kevin Owens, who returned to action after over a year at SummerSlam. The Prizefighter will be present on SmackDown, where he will address his plans.
