The future of Nico Schlotterbeck has become a key talking point as we enter the final phase of the campaign.

The German international is regarded as one of the most gifted defenders in the Bundesliga, with his technical abilities and leadership making him a top target for major clubs across Europe.

Real Madrid are among the most prominent clubs linked with a move for Schlotterbeck, whose contract at Borussia Dortmund expires at the end of the season.

It was thought that Schlotterbeck will leave Dortmund in the summer, knowing the club cannot afford to see him leave for free in the summer of 2027. However, it seems the Bundesliga giants are doing everything they can to keep hold of the player.

Dortmund submit tempting offer for Schlottterbeck

According to Jorge Picon, Borussia Dortmund have tabled a ‘tempting’ renewal offer for Schlotterbeck, with the intention of keeping him at the club for the foreseeable future.

There is a renewed hope that the German international may commit to a long-term deal with Dortmund, as he feels quite close to the table and is considered a key leader in the team.

Dortmund’s renewed hopes come on the back of the club’s failure to strike a new deal with Julian Brandt, whose exit this summer could free up a significant salary space for the club, thus allowing them to hand out a better deal to Schlotterbeck.

The report adds that Real Madrid are closely tracking the former Freiburg defender, who is one of the players the club are considering signing in an attempt to bolster their defence.

Liverpool, too, are keen on the services of Schlotterbeck, with Arne Slot even meeting with the player previously in order to convince him about the project.
