FC Bayern Munich sporting CEO Max Eberl has spoken on the spectacular rumors linking rising Tottenham defender Luka Vuskovic with a move to the German record champions. As Vuskovic’s stratospheric rise continues, few believe that Hamburg stand much of a chance of retaining the now €40m-valued centre-back. The German giants on the other hand? Could they hope to purchase Vuskovic from Tottenham?

That’s a topic the German press simply cannot ignore. So much chatter about Bayern potentially purchasing Vuskovic in order to keep him in the Bundesliga has cropped up over the past week. Hamburger SV may not be able to afford the 18-year-old mega-talent, but could he potentially factor into Bayern’s long range plans? Eberl – fresh off negotiating a new deal for centre-back Dayot Upamecano – spoke on both players at a Saturday press conference.

First, we have to sort our own internal transfer,” Eberl said with clear reference to Upamecano first. “Once that’s done, we’ll have a high quality centre-back. That doesn’t mean Vuskovic isn’t a good player. He’s having an outstanding season. He belongs to Tottenham Hotspur. Bayern also have very good center backs in Jonathan Tah, Upamecano, and Kim Min-jae

We can’t sign every good player that the public thinks should be at FC Bayern,” Eberl continued. “A very good player. No question. But our main focus is on internal transfers, and that’s well known.

We’re very close to the finish line,” Eberl went on to say with specific reference to Upamecano. “It’s always possible that strange things like a horse riding a human over the finish line can occur, but we hope to be able to announce a deal soon.
