Arsenal’s teenage defender Sophie Harwood has signed her first professional contract with the club.
WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Gunners this morning.

The 18-year-old full-back has spent the last 18 months with Arsenal after joining the club from Barclays WSL2 side Southampton.
Harwood initially linked-up with the Arsenal academy, however, she has impressed head coach Renée Slegers enough to earn opportunities to be a part of some first team squads this season.
On the international stage, Harwood has represented England at various youth levels. She is currently a member of the Under-20s Young Lionesses group.
After signing professional terms with Arsenal, Harwood said “Signing my first professional contract for Arsenal is a proud and special moment for me. Arsenal have paved the way for women’s football for so long, and to be able to play at such an historic club means so much to me.

“Every time I wear the badge, I’ll give my all and wear it with pride. Arsenal is a special club with special people and supporters – I’m thrilled to have signed.”
Harwood will now continue her development with a view to pushing for more senior honours in the future.
