Area golfers post high finishes at SDGA Sanford Series stop in Mitchell – Mitchell Republic

MITCHELL — Extra holes were needed to determine the South Dakota Golf Association’s Sanford International Series winner on Monday at Lakeview Golf Course.

For Mitchell’s Asher Dannenbring, he was ready to go.

Dannenbring secured the top honors after winning on the opening hole of the playoff against Sioux Falls’ Tyson Blom following a bogey-free round of 4-under 67 with three birdies carded on Lakeview’s second nine. Blom finished with six birdies total, including one on the par-4 No. 18 hole to force the playoff.

Other Mitchell-area boys golfers posted top results, with Mitchell’s Everett Morrison leading the way with a 10th-place finish after a 1-under 70 against Lakeview’s par-71 layout. Parkston’s Landon Weber was 34th after shooting a 5-over 76, as Mitchell’s Carter McCormick came in 42nd following a 6-over 77 and Wessington Springs’ J.D. Thompson was 56th with an 81.

Behind the top-two finishers for the boys, Flandreau’s Alfie Henderson came in third with a 3-under 68, followed by Elk Point’s Carter Langle (69) in fourth and Spearfish’s Parker Reede (69) in fifth.

In the girls competition, Mitchell’s Maddie Childs posted the highest area finish with an eighth-place result after a 5-over 76, finishing with three birdies. Chamberlain’s Trey Speer was 12th after shooting an 8-over 79. Mitchell’s Mia Larson came in 19th after an 85 and Anna Eliason was 24th following an 89.

Watertown’s Gabi Olson recorded a back-nine score of 28 en route to the girls medalist honors, shooting a 3-under 68 with seven of her nine birdies coming on the back nine. Harrisburg’s Chloe Attema shot a 2-over 73 to finish as the runner-up, with Aberdeen’s Olivia Braun (74), Dakota Dunes’ Kate Betsworth (74) and Brandon’s Vanessa Smith (75) completing the top five.

The final Sanford Series event before the series championship begins on Monday, July 14, in Rapid City. The two-day tournament will be contested at Hart Ranch Golf Club and Meadowbrook Golf Course. The Sanford Series Championship takes place on Monday, July 27, at the Country Club of Sioux Falls.
