Ajax have confirmed the signing of goalkeeper Joeri Heerkens from Sparta Prague.

The Dutch youth international has put pen to paper on a five-year deal, keeping him at the Amsterdam club until 30 June 2030.

Heerkens has represented the Netherlands at youth level and recently enjoyed success as part of the Netherlands U19 side that won the European Championship this summer.

Previously under contract with Sparta until 2027, Heerkens has now made the move to the Eredivisie giants in what is seen as a strategic acquisition for Ajax’s long-term future.

Ajax director of football Alex Kroes expressed his delight at securing the highly rated youngster: “We are pleased that Joeri Heerkens has chosen Ajax. Joeri is a talented young goalkeeper with all the qualities needed for the position: height, reflexes, composure, focus, and the right mentality.

“He shows commitment and an enormous drive to improve. We believe he can develop very well at Ajax and are confident that, in time, he can grow into the role of first-choice goalkeeper.”

Heerkens becomes the latest in a line of promising young players to join Ajax, as the club continues to invest in the future and strengthen its renowned development pathway.

His arrival adds further depth and competition to the goalkeeping department, and he is expected to be gradually integrated into the first-team environment.

The move also highlights Ajax’s ongoing commitment to nurturing young talent and securing players with high potential at an early stage in their careers.
