The former WWE Champion made an appearance on What’s Your Story? With Steph McMahon. Styles’ recent retirement was a big part of the conversation, and Stephanie McMahon read a letter from Styles’ wife, Wendy Jones.

The letter included Wendy congratulating her husband on his wrestling journey and looking ahead to the next stage of their lives. The letter also revealed that Styles turned down an offer from WWE early in his career due to his marriage with Wendy.

“As your bride, I trusted you and even encouraged you to go when the WWE came knocking very early in your career. I believe that required you to move to Cincinnati. I was in college at the time. As a young married couple, you refused. You chose me. Even when I was pushing you to go, you politely declined the offer,” the letter read.

Wendy’s letter noted that Styles told her that they would do this together, not apart. The Phenomenal One had a few tryout matches in WWE in 2001 and 2002 and was later offered a developmental deal contract, which would require him to move to Cincinnati, Ohio, where the Heartland Wrestling Association developmental territory was located.

However, he refused to offer to ensure he stayed with his wife.

Following AJ Styles’ retirement at Royal Rumble, tributes have continued to pour in for the former WWE Champion.

Taking to his Instagram Stories, Austin Theory of The Vision broke character to pay his respects to Styles.

He shared a photo of him taking a selfie with the veteran inside the Elimination Chamber and noted that he will miss the GOAT and said he learned a lot from his “dad.”
