The Jets are eliminated from the playoffs, but Sunday’s 32-25 win at the Jacksonville Jaguars — where quarterback Aaron Rodgers and wide receiver Davante Adams broke through — was cherished throughout the locker room.
On 12 targets, Rodgers and Adams connected nine times for 198 yards and two touchdowns. They looked like their 2014-21 Green Bay Packer selves as the Jets (4-10) finally hung on in a close game that has hindered them all season long.
“It’s been incredible,” Jets coach Jeff Ulbrich said of Adams‘ impact. “For a guy to come in when he did without real time on task with this locker room and to have this impact that he’s had, I’ve never seen it. He’s a constant pro.
“He’s a guy that’s a force multiplier from a standpoint of just elevates those around him. He’s a historical player in this league, and we’re fortunate to have him. And it’s not just the talent — it’s his process, it’s his professionalism, it’s all that. So he’s a had a tremendous impact on those young guys.”
The Jets acquired Adams in an Oct. 15 trade with the Las Vegas Raiders when they were 2-4. New York has gone 2-6 since with four one-score losses.
“It’s too little, too late,” said Rodgers, who completed 16 of 30 passes for 289 yards and three touchdowns. “It’s still special. Doesn’t taint it at all. Doesn’t steal any of the joy of it. Doesn’t take away any of the fun … it’s still going to be special. They’re always special. But this was a year of things that we were close but we kind of let it get away from us in the middle of the season.
After snapping a four-game skid with the victory at Jacksonville (3-11), the Jets enter their final three regular-season games on the outside looking in. Regardless of what they have in store for 2025, Adams cherished Week 15’s high point.
“It’s like a lot of moments we’ve had over the course of our careers,” Adams told SNY’s Jeane Coakley. “I’ve had the opportunity to play with him for basically a decade, and I don’t take any of the plays — let alone years — for granted. So it’s great to see him mobile again and running around and having fun. And obviously this year has not gone the way that any of us imagined or wanted, but just to be able to be in the moment and have fun with our brothers — that’s the most important part.”
