After the completion of her non-compete clause following her WWE departure, Nikki Cross returned to the independent circuit as Nikki Storm in July. In only her second match back, she defeated Jane Nero to become the GAW Women’s Champion. The former RAW Women’s Champion has wrestled six matches for Progress Wrestling ever since.

Zelina Vega, on the other hand, returned to in-ring action earlier this month as Xelina. She defeated Brittnie Brooks and Shayna Baszler in a triple threat match at HOG Fall Out. In her second and the most recent match, the former WWE Women’s United States Champion defeated Myla Grace at Progress The Odyssey Tour – Tag 3.

Zelna Vega opened up about her WWE release

During her appearance on the Busted Open podcast, Zelina Vega spoke about her departure from the global juggernaut.

The 35-year-old confessed that following her release, she had a feeling of failure. Vega noted that she started thinking that she would never be able to achieve her goal of bringing a women’s world title to the 9/11 memorial and honoring her late father. However, the former SmackDown star is now confident that her journey didn’t end with her WWE exit.

“There was a time after the release where you go through a bunch of different emotions. But, I think a bit of failure came with that. Like a weird feeling of failure because I was like, ‘Damn, I don’t think I’ll ever get to do that — get to bring that World Title… But, I don’t think that’s something that ends there,” Xelina said.
