According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (WON), the 29-year-old SmackDown star was planned to defend her title against Alexa Bliss or Fatal Influence’s Jacy Jayne. A previous report did mention Jayne as a potential challenger, but Bliss’ name appeared for the first time.

Moreover, the insider stated that if Ripley wasn’t stripped of the title, there’s a high chance she might not need surgery for her injury. SummerSlam is one month away, and the coming weeks will determine whether Rhea Ripley will appear and compete at the event.

In 2024, Rhea Ripley got injured after WrestleMania XL and was forced to relinquish the Women’s World Championship. In the coming months, Liv Morgan won the title, and the two continued their feud on the red brand, which ultimately led to a one-on-one match at WWE SummerSlam. This was Ripley’s first match in a few months, and she was terrified.

Speaking on ESPN, the 29-year-old SmackDown star revealed she was terrified to compete as she had not stepped inside the ring for a match in around three months. While the bout didn’t end the way she expected, nothing in the said match went wrong, and Mami continued to feud with Morgan until the beginning of 2025.
