The veteran spent a couple of years in All Elite Wrestling and had a memorable rivalry with Toni Storm. Monroe performed as Mariah May in All Elite Wrestling and captured the AEW Women’s World Championship during her time with the company. She signed with the promotion in June 2025 and spent several months in NXT before getting the nod to move up to the main roster.

Blake Monroe reveals why she wanted to sign with WWE

SmackDown star Blake Monroe recently explained why she decided to leave All Elite Wrestling in favor of WWE.

In an interview with wrestling legend Bully Ray on Busted Open After Dark, the former champion claimed she did everything she needed to do in AEW, and it was time for a new challenge. She added that the company’s focus on women’s wrestling was an important factor in her decision.

“I really sat and thought about it, and it was really, really tough decision but it just came down to, ‘I did everything I needed to do.’ I feel like I told a great story. I feel like I made people feel something, and it’s time to close that chapter. And it’s time to start a new one, and like getting a new name, a whole new experience. And like I said there are so many women here. Like women’s wrestling is very important in WWE and that’s something, as a woman, I want to be a part of.”

It will be interesting to see what the future holds for Blake Monroe on SmackDown.
