Wrestling fans completely rejected Pat McAfee and Jelly Roll’s involvement in the storyline between Randy Orton and Cody Rhodes. Randy Orton betrayed McAfee at The Show of Shows and planted him with an RKO out of nowhere.

However, Rhodes capitalized on the distraction and hit Orton with his finisher to retain the Undisputed WWE Championship. The Viper attacked the champion following the match and delivered a punt to his head.

Paul Heyman recently confronted Rhodes on SmackDown and revealed the favor he owed to Gunther. The Oracle presented the former AEW star with a contract for a title match at Clash in Italy before Gunther attacked him from behind. The upcoming PLE is scheduled to take place in Italy on May 31.

WWE Hall of Famer makes bold claim about Gunther’s rivalry with Cody Rhodes

Wrestling legend Bully Ray recently made a bold claim about Gunther being a threat to dethrone Cody Rhodes.

Speaking on Busted Open Radio, Bully Ray suggested that Gunther could be more of a threat to the champion than The Rock ever was. The Final Boss has not made an appearance for the promotion since aligning with John Cena at Elimination Chamber 2025.

John Cena retired following his loss to The Ring General at Saturday Night’s Main Event in December 2025. The former leader of Imperium also retired AJ Styles by defeating him at Royal Rumble 2026.

“This is the heel for Cody. This is the, give me a second before I spit this one out. If done right, Gunther can impose his will on Cody more effectively than The Rock did,” he said.

It will be fascinating to see how long Cody Rhodes can hang onto the Undisputed WWE Championship moving forward.
